For those of you who are Bounty Hunters, or, simply not Jedi, please be aware that there are melee weapons whoms creation, or material their made out of, protect or equally match the Lightsaber and which are capable of resisting or holding back the Lightsaber's powerful heat:

Cortosis- Cortosis ore was a very rare, brittle, fibrous material whose conductive properties caused lightsabers to temporarily short out upon contact, although the wielder could solve this problem by turning the blade back on after a couple of seconds. This effect made cortosis a useful material for anti-lightsaber melee weapons, though with repeated strikes, a lightsaber could still cut through it. Cortosis, due to its heat and energy resistant properties, was also resistant to blaster fire.

Lightfoil- Lightfoils were small and elegant energy swords based upon lightsaber design. Each lightfoil was a work of art, more lightweight and balanced than a lightsaber, it was wielded with one hand, as its petite and elegantly designed handles attested. The lightfoil began to be made and used by non-Force sensitives, becoming popular among certain nobles of the Galaxy.

Phrik- Phrik, was a rare metallic compound that could withstand a lightsaber blade, although unlike the aforementioned metal, Phrik did not possess the ability to cause the blade to short out. Phrik was most notably used in the construction of the electrostaffs, and other weapons.

Darkswords- Darkswords were an ancient type of sword made from a special material that could parry lightsabers. Unlike cortosis, this material did not possess the ability to temporarily deactivate a lightsaber blade it made contact with.

Armorweave- Armorweave was a cloth said to give some resistance to lightsabers, although the protection the reinforced material afforded was limited.

Vibroblade- Vibroblades are a type of bladed melee weapon that used ultrasonic vibrations to increase cutting effectiveness. Swords, pikes, knives, and axes all consisted of the same basic design: the weapon's hilt or handle usually contains a compact ultrasonic generator, causing the blade to vibrate at an incredible speed, making even the slightest glancing blow become a gaping wound. It can be fitted with cortosis weave, allowing it to parry the blows of lightsabers and energy swords. Vibroblades are dangerous to use against electrical weapons, as they conducted electricity. Electrocution, however, would be the wielder's last concern. Traveling up the length of the blade, the electricity would connect with a vibroblade's powercell and sonic generator. The result would be a miniature explosion with enough force to take off a hand.

Vibrosword- The vibrosword is a longer, heavier version of the vibroblade. It is generally wielded with two hands, although some beings ware strong enough to wield them with one and carry two of them. Like all vibro-weapons, vibroswords are dangerous to use against electrical weapons, as they conducted electricity, though electrocution is not the primary concern; electricity traveling up the length of the blade could connect with the weapon's energy cell and sonic generator. The result would be a miniature explosion with enough force to take off the user's hand.

Mandalorian Iron- A metal used by the Mandalorian warriors. While the material was nearly indestructible even to lightsabers, it was surprisingly light. This was due not only to the natural properties of the metal, but also to Mandalorian metallurgy. It was commonly folded multiple times to gain even greater strength. Creating an alloy of Mandalorian iron was exceedingly difficult and was a skill known to few non-Mandalorians.

Force Weapon/Sith Alchemy- Weapons imbued with the power of the Force could be used to parry a lightsaber's blade without harm. Or, weapons made by Sith Alchemists.

Water- All lightsabers, unless specially made, would short out when they were submerged in water, due to rapid chain reactions and the instant overpowering of water on the blade. In rain, a lightsaber would steam up, but not short out.
